Meade County Baptist Temple

Meade Country Baptist Temple is a Fundamental, Independent Baptist Church.  Our church is composed of down-to-earth folks who love the Lord, love our pastor, love God's people, and want to reach others with the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

ARTICLES OF FAITH

1. The Scriptures : We believe that the Bible, both Old & New Testaments, are the Word of God; that they were written by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit so that their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired; free from error as no other writings have ever been or ever will be. They are the complete and final revelation of the will of God to man preserved for the English speaking people of the world in the 1611 King James version and so are the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

2. The True God : We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

a. God the Father - We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, boundless in love, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ, His Son.

b. God the Son - We believe in Jesus Christ, God the Son, pre-existent with the Father, begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary: sinless in His nature and life, infallible in His teaching, making atonement for the sins of the world by His substitutionary death on the cross. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His perpetual intercession for His people, and His glorious second advent according to promise. We believe that the promise of His second coming included: first, "the Blessed Hope" of the believer, namely the personal, premillenial, and pretribulational return of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to rapture His church according to I Thess. 4:13-18: second, His return later to earth with His Saints to set up His millennial reign.

c. God the Holy Spirit - We believe in the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit. We believe that He came from God to convince and convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment: and to regenerate, sanctify, indwell, and comfort and empower those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Personal Savior.

3. Man: We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God. We believe that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought and deed by choice.

4. Satan: We believe in the reality and personality of Satan.

5. Salvation: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who by faith receive Him as their personal Savior, are justified on the ground of His shed blood on Calvary and His resurrection from the dead, and are born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become the children of God.

6. The Church: We believe in the visible church, which is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship and fellowship in the Word. We believe that to these visible churches was committed for perpetual observance, two ordinances; the baptism of believers by immersion, and the Lord's Supper. We believe that God has laid upon these churches the task of preaching the Gospel to every creature, and the edification of the individual members of the Body of Christ.

7. Last Things: We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead, the saved to eternal life and blessedness in Heaven and the unsaved to eternal, conscious suffering and torment in a burning Hell (John 5:29).

8. Assurance: We believe in the eternal security of the believer (John 10: 27-29).

9. Church and State: We believe that every human being is capable of having direct relations with God, and is responsible to God alone in all matter of faith; that each church is independent and autonomous, and must be free from any interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; that, therefore, the church and state must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other.

10. Christian Living: We believe that every saved person should manifest the Christ-Life in a consistent walk in the Holy Spirit, fully and constantly yielding his members to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, fully and may always by life and word show forth the praises of Him who called him out of darkness into His marvelous light. We believe in a separated life for all believers as set forth in II Cor. 6:14-7:1, including separations from mixed marriages, and worldly alliances, pleasures, methods of work, worldly societies, etc.

CHURCH COVENANT

Section A: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and angels, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk in knowledge, and comfort; to promote its prosperity, and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to give it a preeminence over all institutions of human origin; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spreading of the Gospel through all nations. We believe that such support should begin with the Old Testament standard of tithing and increase as does our love for the Lord (Matt. 6:21).

Section B: We also endeavor to attain the salvation of our kindred and aquantainces, to walk circumspectly in the world, to be just in our dealings, and faithful in our engagements. We also endeavor to maintain both family and secret devotions.

Section C: We further agree hereby to be exemplary in our deportment, to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech, to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the order of our Savior to secure it without delay.

Section D: We moreover agree that when we remove from this fellowship, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church of like faith and practice where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
